Over the years there has been a reduction in the amount of quality auto-x venues in Alberta that our clubs have permission to use, meet safety regulations and are affordable to rent.

Autox/Solo/Solosport Ruleset

The WCMA is the governing body of our autox clubs in Alberta. The car classing rules they adopted are from the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA): 2026 SCCA Solo (autox) Rules. Scroll to the bottom of that page then click the link that says "2026 Solo Rules Download". *Note that only the SCCA's car classing regulations are relevant to us so when reading their Solo Rules only focus on sections 13 to 20.

Helmet Requrements

Everyone who shows up at our events needs to have their helmet checked thats it's legal. At tech inspection if your helmet passes you'll get a sticker for your helmet showing your lid is good for all of 2026. Also we acknowledge other wcma club helmet stickers eg SASC.

When on course in your car you need to be wearing an approved helmet.

Your approved racing helmet must have an official sticker with the following certification: Snell 2015 (SA or M), Snell 2020 (SA or M), Snell 2025 (SA or M), FIA 8860-2004, FIA 8860-2010, FIA 8860-2015, ECE R22.05 (helmet can not be more than 10yr after its manufacturing date), and SFI Foundation 31.1 (2010 and 2015)

Where to purchase a racing helmet:
We do not have any club sponsors (yet?!) so here is an incomplete and unbias list of somewhere in Edmonton you can walk in and get an approved motorsports helmet off their shelf. JB Power Center, Mopac Auto Supply, Argyll Motorsport & Marine. There are also many reputable and community-minded motorsport supply shops that you can order from including Motorsport Supplies Inc. and RallySport.ca

Note about DOT:
You're most likely only going to find "DOT" approved helmets at sporting stores (Canadian Tire, etc) - these are not approved. This means your DOT approved motox, snowmobile, quad (etc) helmet is not approved here, and you can not wear it in the car even as a passenger. Please don't show up with a fancy mountain bike helmet either (don't ask me why I have to write this).

Note about Snell 2015:
This (2026) is the last year that Snell 2015 will be approved.

Simplified Guide to Classing your Car

The AutoX Club of Edmonton uses the SCCA Solo Car Classes. Solo/AutoX racing events are held all across Canada and the USA and over 99% of these events use the SCCA classing system and all of the WCMA Clubs use this system. A great advantage to this system is the PAX index.

STEP 1:

Here’s a link to the SCCA Solo Classification Assistant. With the Assistant you simply enter your Car’s Make, Model and Year and it will tell you what class(es) your car fits into, depending on the modifications it has.

EX: you have a 2012, BMW, 3 Series non Turbo. The Assistant shows the car’s potential classes as FS, BST, SM, XP, XA.

STEP2:

The following lists the SCCA Class categories, and outlines the allowed modifications. Compare the modifications your car has to what is allowed in the various categories. For example, the modifications to your car align with the allowed modifications of the Street Touring Category. You would then refer to Step 1 and see what Street Touring Class your car fits into, and now you know your car’s class. It’s that simple.

EX: to your 2012 BMW above, you’ve added a cold air intake, cat back exhaust, larger aftermarket sway bars, and re-tuned ECU. These mods go beyond what’s’ allowed in the Street category, but not beyond what’s allowed in the Street Touring Category, therefore the car is classed in BST.

STREET (AS, BS, CS, DS, ES, FS, GS, HS, HSC)

Allowed Modification are:

• Street tires with a minimum tread wear rating of 200 (UTQG 200 or higher)
• Wheels +/- 1″ OEM diameter, but with OEM wheel width, and offset of +/- 7mm
• Brake pads
• Shocks (dampers)
• Add/Change one sway bar only with its stock brackets, front OR rear
• Air filter drop-in without altering the OEM airbox (Ex. swap stock filter for a K&N stock replacement filter)
• Cat-back exhaust

STREET TOURING (AST, BST, CST, DST, EST, GST, SST, CSX, CSM, SSC)

Allowed Modification are:

• Pedal covers
• Replace front seats, minimum of 25 lbs each with installation kit
• Struts and sway bars
• Tires with a minimum tread wear of 200 (street).
• SST has unlimited tire width and rim diameter.
• Maximum tire widths allowed per class (in mm):
  • 225: AST (AWD), CST (AWD), EST
  • 245: DST (AWD), GST (AWD)
  • 255: AST (2WD), CST (2WD)
  • 265: DST (2WD), GST (2WD)
  • 295: BST (AWD, RWD mid-engine, & RWD forced induction)
  • 315: BST (RWD N/A & FWD)
• Wheels, maximum diameter allowed per class (inches):
• 7.5: AST (AWD), CST (AWD), EST
• 8.0: DST (AWD)
• 9.0: AST (2WD), CST (2WD), DST, GST
• 11.0: BST
• Fender rolling allowed (no fender pull, no fender cutting etc.)
• Rotor (brakes), braided hoses
• Suspension (Coil, shock, coilovers)
• Alignment outside of OEM spec (refer to rule book for which alignment parts are allowed for your type of suspension)
• Air intake (add cold air intake with any air filter size dimension)
• Exhaust (headers, high-flow catalytic converter be less than 6″ from the OEM original position)
• Engine management system tuning within these limitations:
  • Any OE OBD2 or newer communications port functionally must remain
  • 2005 and older model year vehicles, supplementary (“piggyback”) ECU is permitted provided that it is plug compatible and connects only between the standard PCM/ECU and its wiring harness
  • 1995 and older vehicles may implement a replacement “stand-alone” PCM/ECU
• Fuel pressure regulator.
• For cars originally equipped with forced induction cars in SST, AST, BST, and GST without removing body panels or structural members:
  • Intercoolers or charge air coolers only cooled by the atmosphere unless its standard parts
  • Charge pipes
  • Compressor Bypass Valves, blow-off valves, and pop-off valves
  • Boost regulation systems electric or mechanical (no changes to turbocharger or wastegate and wastegate spring)
• LSD differential with exceptions:
  • Only the viscous OEM is allowed in EST
  • Only 1 LSD change is allowed for AWD/4WD
• Battery relocated but not in the passenger compartment (trunk is allowed).

STREET PREPARED (SSP, ASP, BSP, CSP, DSP, ESP, FSP)

Allowed Modification are:

• All modifications from previous classes.
• R-Compound Tires
• Replacement of parts with the same category model (e.g., Golf and Jetta).
• ECU
• Removal of air conditioning
• Complete suspension
• Fender work, tires may exceed
• Front seats
• Steering wheel even if original airbag
• Spoiler and splitter
• Tires and wheels
• Complete brakes
• Battery relocated but not in the cabin space (trunk OK)
• Complete exhaust, removal of anti-pollution system including the catalytic converter
• Throttle body, intake manifold, and injection
• LSD differential

STREET Modified (SSM, SM, SMF)

Allowed Modification are:

• All modifications from previous classes
• Engine modifications
• Engine swap
• Body parts such as hood and trunk can be replaced
• Rear seat removed.

PREPARED (SSP, ASP, BSP. CSP, DSP, ESP, FSP)

Allowed Modification are:

• Race tires allowed Wheels up 10” wide allowed, wider wheels allowed with a weight penalty Similar to SP for parts and inter-model engines
• First class where chassis reinforcements are allowed
• Lightened bumpers and interior
• Lexan windows permitted
• Aerodynamic restriction such as spoiler and splitter for several classes. (XP is more permissive)
• Engine restrictions from Street Modified for BP to FP classes based on the OEM engine and restrictions for turbo and superchargers, and XP class for engine swaps

CAM and Xtreme STREET (CAM-C, CAM-S, CAM-T, XA, XB, XU)

Allowed Modification are:

• Street tires with a minimum tread wear rating of 200 (UTQG 200 or higher)Headliner can be removed
• Seats, carpet etc. behind B-Pillar can removed
• Fronts seat can be modified, or replaced/changed
• Exteroir body panels can be modified/replaced
• Frame/Unibody may be modified or replaced to support other modifications
• Fender liners can be removed
• Fuel Cell can be modified/replaced (must remain separated from driving compartment)
• Any wheels, diameter and width allowed
• Engine and drivetrain unrestricted, put that Chevy LS in your Ford.
• Splitters, Air Dams, Spoilers allowed
• Rear wings allowed except for CAM-T
• Suspension, Steering, Brakes, unrestricted
• Electrical System unrestricted

ACE Autox HPDE School

• Friday, May 29, 2026 at 7:00pm is the classroom session at Jumpzone

Poker Rally Social

• Saturday, May 2. 10am to ~1:30pm.
• Registration on-site, cost $50 cash.
• Members and non-members welcome!
• Meet at 10:00am in the North end of the Canadian Tire parking lot on Wye Rd in Sherwood Park.
• Bring clipboard, paper, pen, and a way to take pictures (your smartphone or digital camera).
• This is a fun, non-timed, not a race, legal driving only, scavenger hunt where you follow instructions to find the items on your list. You'll be driving for about 2hr so arrive with plenty of fuel and snacks. Another person in your car is highly encouraged as you'll need to read instructions to find the places on the hunt. The last place you find is the end which is the Canadian Brewhouse in Ft Sask. This is where we will do the awards and 'poker' part. Anyone getting any traffic tickets or complaints against them will be disqualified. This is not a race. If you get lost, just go to the end!

Results:
Everyone finished the scavenger hunt and arrived at the finish location! To the best of my knowledge (Colin) there were no mechanical issues either!

• 2nd Richard and Michelle won $150 with 10-J-Q-K-A Straight
• 3rd Colin and Natalie won $100 with 3 Kings
• 4th Dale and Christine and Maygan won $50 with 2 Aces and 2 Kings
